Ken-Caryl Ranch Business Offers Top-Notch Home Remodeling
By Community Relations Director Victoria DeSair
Ken-Caryl Ranch resident David Hawk of The Spread has been in the home remodeling business for 20 years. He started Hawk Construction, located in the Ken-Caryl Marketplace at 10143 W. Chatfield Ave., in 1992.
Hawk Construction is a full-service, residential remodeling company that manages all remodeling activities from small bath remodeling to major additions. Their services include design, planning, budgeting, product selection, project management, scheduling and cleanup. They offer turnkey remodeling and the complete responsibility for all aspects of the project. They have a variety of products ranging from builder grade all the way to custom level so that clients can find something within their budget.
“Hawk Construction’s ability to complete projects from design, product selection and construction through final inspection utilizing our in-house designers and design center saves time and expense for our clients,” said David. “This ability improves scheduling of products to the job site, communications with construction personnel and establishes accountability with a single source of contact.”
An interior designer and a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) are available to help homeowners with the design component of their remodeling. Karen Brunton is certified as an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. She has 10 years of experience in the home building industry and interior design. She uses her knowledge of space planning, color and products to design spaces to fit her clients’ needs, lifestyle and budget. Carolyn Spottsville has done kitchen and bath design for 12 years. She earned accreditation as a CKD from the National Kitchen and Bath Association.
At Hawk, after the project is designed and released for production it is assigned to one of their three project managers. The project manager handles scheduling, quality and budget and becomes the single source of communication for the client. Having a single contact person simplifies communication for the client and assures that the project manager is always in the loop for critical job details.
“I’m very focused on making sure everyone is happy,” said David. “We go above and beyond to make sure our service level is right. We really take the time to help clients with questions. I advise clients to let us handle everything. We hone in on budget and give the best we can for the dollars our clients are willing to invest.”
David said Hawk tries to make sure the workers and the construction schedule fit into their clients’ lives. It is disruptive to remodel a house, and they try to be considerate of everyone involved. They also make sure to have crew members who clients feel completely comfortable with in their home.
“I’m most proud when I sit down with a client after a job,” David said. “People say how comfortable they were and how much they liked our crew. We also meet with the client before the one-year warranty period to see if there is anything to take care of.”
For larger projects, Hawk uses a customer management software program so that clients can log in to a website and track their schedule and budget. Hawk can also post pictures of different products on the site so that customers can choose products without having to come in to the showroom.
David also owns Owner/Builder Supply, which is a kitchen and bathroom design center and showroom where homeowners and other contractors can purchase cabinets, countertops, flooring, faucets and other remodeling materials. Owner/Builder Supply also offers the design services of Karen and Carolyn. Hawk Construction and Owner/Builder Supply are housed in the same office and work interchangeably.
Both companies are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
